Mark Horton was born on March 6, 1959, in Clinton, Mississippi, and made his home in New York City for more than forty years. He went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2026.

He was, first and last, a man of faith. As a boy he committed the Westminster Shorter Catechism to memory, and a love of Scripture stayed with him all his life. In New York he gave himself to the people of Messiah’s Reformed Fellowship, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and Providence Baptist Church, where his faithfulness, his encouragement, and his readiness to serve were known and loved.

Mark was a maker. He sang and he directed choirs; he sat down at pianos and typewriters; he built things and drew things and dressed stages. Whatever room he was in, he was usually in the middle of making something in it — and usually making the people around him laugh while he did.

Those who knew him remember the rest just as vividly: a joyful spirit, a quick and generous wit, and a loyalty that did not waver. He was a friend who paid attention, who told a story well, and who could find the humor and the wonder in the same breath. As one remembrance put it, he laughed big, and he loved even bigger.

He also loved words — turning them over, chasing them down rabbit trails, and setting them on the page with care and delight. He wrote under the byline he chose for himself: Who’s Horton? This site gathers his writing so that those who loved him can go on keeping company with his voice.
